English Language for secondary schools - book one
English Language for Secondary Schools Book One is based on the 2005 Language Syllabus for form one. This book has been written for form one English students in Tanzanian schools. Many factors have been taken into consideration in writing this book. The socio-political, economic, cultural and linguistic dynamisms were fully considered. It is no doubt that the previous English language syllabus put more emphasis on the mastery of structural rules and less emphasis on the functional or communicative use of language in various domains. This book puts more emphasis on the communicative use of language in various situations, although it does not completely ignore the basic structural rules of English language. The author has encompassed various English language teaching approaches in order to help learners grasp relevant and meaningful communicative events. English for Secondary Schools Book One is well organised. At the beginning there are ‘get ready’ exercises which can be used as a warm-up. The book is divided into thirty one units, each containing at least five main parts; reading for comprehension, focus on vocabulary, speech practice, writing skills and structural practice.
